The Eastern
Sierra has long been considered one of the most beautiful locations in
California if not in the US. The workshop explores different locations each
year, stretching from the Ownens Valley in the South to just below the
Nevada border in the North.
In White Mountains approximately
11,000 feet above sea level, there is a haunting landscape with the oldest
trees known to man. The Bristlecone Forest is an unique location revealing
a history that goes back thousands of years. This extremely stark location
gives the photographer the opportunity to incorporate all the skills he or
she has to capture this visual treasure land.
The changing colors of the Eastern Sierra are a marvel to see
and we will spend time photographing the colors in several locations. The
changing fall leaves set at the foot of the Sierra and reflecting in the lakes
and rivers give a rainbow of color the photographer will find irresistible.
We will spend the weekend in Bristlecone Forest, arriving late Friday
afternoon for a look around and dinner at the University of California's
Research Center, Crooked Creek. This, also is our home base and lodging for
two nights. Crooked Creek outpost is located high in the Bristlecone Forest
(10,500 feet), just off the main road along the beautiful meandering Crooked
Creek.
We will spend all day Saturday and Sunday morning exploring the
wonders that this expansive landscape affords us. The thousand year old
Bristlecone trees are dotted along this majestic landscape allowing us
wonderful photographic opportunities only available at this unique location.
The instructor will work with you individually, assuring that you will have
memorable photographs of the area.
The orientation will cover
information on the location and how to photograph in the area. If you are
not able to attend the orientation, information will be mailed or e-mailed to
you. We will also need to know no later than September 1 if you
have any special dietary needs. (Are you vegetarian, and/or can you eat fish
or chicken?). If we hear nothing we will assume you are able to eat the
regular planned menu.
