The Eastern Sierra has long been considered one of the most beautiful locations in California if not in the US. The workshop explores different locations each year, stretching from the Owens Valley in the South to just below the Nevada border in the North.
As early as 1865 Bodie attracted nationwide attention for its wickedness and flagrant disregard of law and order, and the legend still lives on and in its walls and up on Boothill. As a photographer, you will be able to relive part of this in your photographs. Portraying a way of life in the old buildings and landscape.
Mono Lake, a wonderful jewel set between two mountain ranges, is a photographic challenge that photographers can't resist. They come from all parts of the world to experience and photograph this unusual and beautiful wonder. This lake can reveal its wonders to the camera's lens in so many ways that every visit to its shores will produce a new unique photograph.
The changing colors of the Eastern Sierra are a marvel to see and we will spend time photographing the colors in several locations. The changing fall leaves set at the foot of the Sierra and reflecting in the lakes and rivers give a rainbow of color the photographer will find irresistible.
We will spend this weekend exploring the Mono Lake Basin and the old California ghost town of Bodie. The workshop starts Friday afternoon along the edge of Mono Lake. We will be there for the sunset over the Sierras and photographing the Alpine glow over the lake. Saturday and Sunday we will be discovering new locations around the lake, photographing Bodie and the fall foliage.
There is camping close by in the beautiful Sierras or lodging in Lee Vining.
Best to make reservations very early for lodging. This is the prime photography
time in the Eastern Sierra. Information on lodging will be sent to all registrants.
The orientation will cover information on the location and how to photograph in the area. If you are not able to attend the orientation, information will be mailed or e-mailed to you.
